Activities for 2008 include the following:

PTSD Working Group

This working group was established in response to information that unresolved trauma is a leading cause of chronic health conditions. We will be advancing an integrative approach to understanding and responding to trauma.

To that end, we will be doing the following:

RESEARCH

1. determine the extent of unresolved traumatic stress in the population and its correlation to health conditions. To do this, we have submitted a question to the Hawaii Health Survey to be conducted in 20082.
2. determine the extent of awareness of and response to trauma-related stress within Hawaii’s agencies. We will be conducting a phone and email survey with agencies to determine their procedures for assessing for trauma and treating trauma.

EDUCATION

We will be conducting a fullday symposium A Holistic Approach to Understanding and Treating Trauma-related Stress.

CLINICAL MODELS

If our research suggests it is needed, we will facilitate the development of a holistic center for trauma. Olelo (Public Access) Television Program We plan to launch, by the end of 2008, a regular television program focusing on integrative healthcare interventions for a variety of health conditions.
